An analysis of supply on high-cost medical technologies in Korea and the implications of certificate of need in United States

Abstract

|
This paper analyzes supply of MRI and CT scanners in Korea and Certificate of need(CON) program in United States. Korea regulate supply of new high-cost medical technologies by number of hospital beds. However, high-cost medical technologies is increasing constantly. In most countries, the supply of high-cost medical technologies is determine by capacity planning at the national or regional level. United States also plan capacities for supply of new high-cost medical technologies by CON at the state level. This conveys a implication to the Korea``s policy change on high-cost medical technologies.
